Dr. Kevin Wallace

“For over 25 years I have been deeply committed to enhancing and improving the lives of individuals, couples, and families in my community. I first worked as a counsellor for several glorious summers at a therapeutic horseback riding camp for kids with disabilities. I then went on to my first professional job where I spent many years providing career counselling to youth and adults with disabilities and mental health issues. After that, I worked at the Cross Cancer Institute. There I provided individual, couples and group counselling for individuals and families living with cancer. In more recent years, I maintain a private practice while teaching and supervising graduate students at the University of Alberta.

In terms of formal training, I earned my Masters degree and PhD in Counselling Psychology from the University of Alberta. My PhD training program was accredited by the Canadian Psychological Association – which upholds the highest training standards in Canada. My doctoral research focused on the qualities of highly effective therapists. From my research participants, I learned that clients value a psychologist who is warm, understanding, and works hard to help. Striving to live up to these ideals has guided my practice ever since.

My professional work is focused on providing counselling to individuals and couples. I also provide psycho-educational assessment, personality assessment, career and vocational assessment and therapeutic assessment. I have also developed and led several psychotherapy educational and support groups and have given public talks on topics like “Living Well” – the application of the principles of positive psychology. If you search on Youtube you may find a nervous earlier version of me giving one of my first talks.

I am qualified to treat anxiety, depression, anger problems, relationship issues, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, as well as grief and loss, using a variety of approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). My years of experience and training has taught me that what is most important, whether providing counselling or formal assessments, is finding an approach that fits you and your life situation; finding what can help you move forward given your particular goals.”
